What is Corruption :

The term ‘Corruption’ can be defined as the illegal, dishonest, or disloyal behavior by the people in power. It is the use of official power for personal gains. It has entered every sphere of life.

Examples of corrupt behavior included bribery, extortion, fraud, embezzlement, nepotism, and cronyism.

Corruption in public life is fast spreading. It can happen anywhere in the business, in government, public offices, media, civil society as well as across all sectors from health and education to infrastructure and sports.

It can involve anyone from politicians, government officials, business people to the members of the general public.

Political corruption is the worst. During elections, voters are bribed. Corruption is like cancer prevailing in our society today.


Causes of Corruption :

The main reasons for corruption are the use of black money in elections, lack of integrity among the leaders, poverty of the country, public indifference, weak control on various departments, and lack of transparent laws.


Effects of Corruption :

Corruption erodes trust, weakens democracy, hampers economic development, and further exacerbates inequality, instability, unemployment, poverty, social divisions, and environmental crisis.

Corruption unchecked can increase criminal activity. A number of steps are required to manage and end corruption. There must be a strong focus on imparting moral education. Government should enforce tough laws and strict punishments.

Applying cameras in workplaces is an excellent way to prevent corruption. It is important to sensitize the entire population and bring together all people to fight against Corruption.
